Description:
Tenofovir is an antiretroviral agent that inhibits the viral enzyme reverse transcriptase and so inhibits replication of retroviruses; used as tenofovir disoproxil fumarate in the treatment of HIV-1 (human immunodeficiency virus-1) infection. Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is an analog of adenosine 5'-monophosphate; it interferes with the HIV viral RNA dependent DNA polymerase resulting in inhibition of viral replication.
